A wedding at The Lodge at Willow Lake in Aldie, VA is always a beautiful experience, but Ashley and Colin’s retro-inspired celebration was full of personality, laughter, and playful surprises from start to finish.
From the very beginning, Ashley’s bubbly and fun energy was infectious throughout the entire planning process. You could feel how much joy she brought into every detail, and because of that, that energy carried straight into the wedding day and set the tone for a celebration that felt lighthearted, intentional, and deeply personal.
One of the most memorable parts of the day came from the playful energy woven throughout their timeline. Ashley planned a first look prank, and Colin didn’t see his bride at all, instead, he was greeted instead by his best man dressed in a wedding gown. The surprise caught everyone off guard and instantly had the entire room laughing. The reaction said everything, it was the perfect reflection of Ashley and Colin’s relationship: playful, loving, and full of shared humor.
Meanwhile, the weather added its own unexpected storyline. The forecast called for rain all day, but when I arrived, the entire property was glowing under clear blue skies. The sun was shining brightly, and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. It felt like the day itself was celebrating alongside them.
Later on, the rain did eventually arrive, but it waited until cocktail hour. Guests transitioned indoors as the celebration continued, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere that fit the evening perfectly.
Finally, one of the most magical surprises of the day came when a rainbow appeared just outside the venue during dinner. Guests rushed out to see it, and it quickly became one of those once in a lifetime moments that no one forgets. It felt almost symbolic, like a quiet exclamation point at the end of a joyful day.
Throughout everything, Ashley and Colin stayed fully present with each other and their people. As a wedding photographer, weddings like this are a reminder of why storytelling matters. This wedding at The Lodge at Willow Lake wasn’t just visually beautiful, it was alive with personality, laughter, and love in every moment.
